Gwendolyn Rogers
My name is Gwendolyn Rogers; I am a native of Linden Alabama, where I have resided for all of my childhood, and the vast majority of my adulthood. I was married to my husband Larry for thirty-one years, until his heartbreaking death in February of 2020. I am the mother of one daughter, two sons, and two stepsons. I am also “Love-Love” to my adorable grandchildren, who are the apples of my eye. Early in my life, my parents instilled in me the importance of education. As a result, education has always been an important part of my life. Following graduation from Linden High School, I continued my education at Concordia College, and The University of West Alabama. While at Concordia College, I earned an Associate’s Degree in English Concentration. Having a strong desire to earn a four-year degree and my teaching credentials, led me to enroll in The University of West Alabama’s College of Education. There, I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English Education with a Middle School Endorsement; I also earned a Master’s Degree in School Counseling, as well as an Educational Specialist Degree in School Counseling. My desire to keep learning led me to the decision to return to school to obtain an administration certification in Instructional Leadership. I am currently employed with Linden City School System, where in the past; I have served as a middle and high school English Language Arts teacher, and where I currently serve as a Professional School Counselor, and System Testing Coordinator. I have also served, and still serve on a number of school committees such as BBSST, RTI, School Leadership Team, ELA Chair, Curriculum Director, Building Testing Coordinator, and School Counselor Supervisor. I have also served as Vice President, and Secretary, respectively, of our local Alabama Education Association. I am a member of the Alabama School Counselors Association, National Education Association, Alabama Education Association, Robinson Delight Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Elite Lindenite Organization, Inc., Helping Hands Social Club, and a proud member of Nu Nu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I also serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the Alabama League of Municipalities. I am a member of First Baptist Church in Linden, where Rev. Robert Pearce is my Pastor. I am actively involved in our church’s music ministry, Vacation Bible School ministry and our Youth Ministry. One of my favorite quotes is from Mary McLeod Bethune says “We can get better results by thinking together and planning together. I will work hard to be a part of the “thinking together, and planning together that will get better results for the citizens of my community and the state of Alabama.
